The QNAP TVS-672XT is the best NAS for Plex, in my opinion. Still, the enclosure would be considerably more costly.įeatures: 1x 10Gb LAN, 2x Thunderbolt 3, 1x USB 3.1 Gen 2, HDMI If you plan on primarily playing 4K content that may require transcoding to recipient devices, an Intel Core processor is certainly the way to go.

Intel Atom, Celeron, and Core series processors are all different, too, with certain SKUs only supporting 1080p transcoding. For Plex, you're going to want an Intel processor at the very least. It's movies and shows where transcoding may be required, especially for 4K content, where you'll need additional firepower unless the NAS has HDMI output. If it's merely music and photo streaming, you can get away with vastly less powerful and more affordable NAS enclosures. It all comes down to what you plan on using a Plex NAS media server for. And if you want to save some money or don't plan on storing too many media files, the Synology DiskStation DS220+ is a sound choice for an affordable Plex that houses an Intel CPU and supports Plex Media Server. It's powerful enough for Plex with plenty of other features.Ī good runner-up is the ASUSTOR NIMBUSTOR 4 (AS5304T), which also has some kick-ass networking for game streamers and a unique design.

If we were to recommend one NAS for you to buy to have the best Plex experience, it would be the QNAP TVS-672XT. You can easily find at least one from the likes of Synology, QNAP, and ASUSTOR. Many vendors produce NAS enclosures that are great for Plex (and some transcoding) it's simply the case of picking out the highlight models. Still, if you plan on transcoding and streaming 4K content, you'll need powerful components for Plex NAS compatibility. It's easy to look at the most affordable enclosures available and pick them for Plex, which would be sufficient for music and phones. What is the best NAS for Plex?Ĭhoosing the best NAS for home is one thing, but picking the right NAS for Plex is a whole different game. That's where this collection of enclosures comes into play, allowing you to take your media to the big screen without any buffering. To enjoy all your favorite 4K content, you'll need to have a capable NAS enclosure, which means a powerful CPU. as i said, my system volume is only 25gb and nothing on it at all. When shopping around for the best NAS, if you have Plex in mind as to what you'll be using your NAS for, there are a few additional factors to consider. i get the spinning circle for a second but then it only says nas and nothing happens anymore. Thx for the links, i worked with the second link, did everything in there, got my uids and gids and everything, but it will always stop at the connecting host volumes since it wont work. is that enough or am i missing something?

in filestation or through windows i have access to all folders, especially media folders on the media volume which i would like to link to the emby container server.Īm i missing something important with the folder "shares" not being there? what is happening D:? i have folders like movies, tv shows with files in them and set privileges to the accounts (my admin has read/write everywhere). i am logged in with admin rights (not the admin account but the second account with admin rights, because of security reasons). I have 3 volumes, one system, one for data, one for media. the container folder is getting installed by default into the "root" of my system volume (which only has 25gb and is pretty empty since i dont many apps). Ok i should ask first, what do you mean by share folders? i see in your path that your main folder is called share, i dont have any folder called share on my nas.

I would be very happy for some help on how to get a safer container environment running for emby.

#Qnap emby server install#

If i install a default container of emby, then delete it again, then install a new one again, i have at least some settings under environment where i suppose i should add the gid and uid of my user account, right? (i got the info via ssh and putty). im also not sure how to put in the user account which emby should work under. i just cant set any folders for the container. Problem: i cant set anything in the settings, it only shows NAS, the loading circle then nothing appears. Solution: set the correct volumes from hosts. Problem: i cant access any files on my nas. What i think is the problem: installing the emby container with defaults and set to bridge lets me find an emby server in my windows network, and i can play around in the emby settings in the webbrowser. now i think it is not lack of my understanding anymore but just a simple bug maybe or some wrong configuration in my nas settings? i am trying for three days now and still not able to put my emby container to use.
